Kathy and Bill Kilponen
Kathy was one of the very few women enrolled at Michigan Tech in the 50s where she studied mathematics. She completed her master's degree at Northern Michigan University and enjoyed teaching mathematics at Bay de Noc Community College.
Their son, Ron, is also a mechanical engineer graduate of Michigan Tech and a patent attorney. He lives in Novi with his wife, Annie; son, Kyle; and twins, Dana and Andrew.
Their daughter, Karen, graduated with mathematics, chemistry and physics majors and holds a master's degree in statistics from Oakland University. She is married to Robert Fix. They reside in Pittsburgh, Pa. with their two sons, Nathan and Elliot.
Bill built the couple's "home in the woods" on the banks of the Ford River, which they recently sold this summer. The Kilponens moved into a retirement home, which Bill also built, on Portage Lake in the Keweenaw. The couple likes snow.
Their son and daughter hosted a quiet family gathering in honor of 52 years of marriage.
