After 26 years, Miller retires from Navy
WASHINGTON, D.C. - US Navy Captain Peter Miller, son of Richard Miller of Rapid River, and relative to numerous other Delta County Millers, retired from the Navy on July 27 after more than 26 years of active duty service.
Miller was raised in West Berlin, Germany, and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and nuclear engineering. He was commissioned through the NROTC program in 1986. and completed nuclear power and submarine officer training. He served onboard four nuclear powered submarines, including USS Georgia (SSBN-729), USS Kamehameha (SSN-642), USS Louisville (SSN-724), and completed his service as the commanding officer of the USS Springfield (SSN-761).

His shore duty included four years in Naples, Italy, on the Commander Naval Forces Europe staff, two years in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, two years in Perth, Australia, on exchange with the Royal Australian Navy submarine force, three years in Stuttgart, Germany, at US Africa Command, and most recently in the Pentagon.
