Many years ago when I last went to the fair, I found it a bit unsatisfying as it seemed cluttered and dirty. I went again on Friday and had a different experience.
All the exhibition buildings and the midway shows are neat and clean now and, of course, so interesting. One of my favorites, though, was the Mind Trekkers in the Activity Tent. It was put on by Michigan Tech from Houghton. All the stations were manned by volunteer students who were very nice, friendly and knowledgeable members of the Mind Trekkers Club of Michigan Tech. They demonstrated chemical reactions to some things using words and language the average person can understand. If they're back next year, take your kids. You or they might have fun walking on water or being inside a giant bubble. Right off the fair midway is the DNR Pocket Park. A beautiful, peaceful green area where you can watch kids fishing or safely learning to shoot a pellet gun or bow and arrow at targets.
All this was made more enjoyable with paved midways and paths. Thank you fair board and etc.
