GARDEN - Schuyler D. "Sonny" Bartholomew, 83, of Garden, Mich., died Aug. 15, 2012 at the Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique.
He was born May 3, 1929, in Ann Arbor, Michi., the son of Schuyler V. and Leda (LaMont) Bartholomew. He attended Catholic grade school in Monroe, as well as other schools in Florida, and in Garden. Schuyler later entered the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict.
On Jan. 23, 1960, he married the former Arlene J. Anderson at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Garden. They made their home and raised their family in Garden Township. She preceded him in death on June 7, 2012.
Sonny was employed as a construction laborer.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the American Legion, both in Garden. He was the Garden Township treasurer for approximately 20 years, and loved to spend time outdoors attending to his personal garden.
Schuyler is survived by his daughters, Mary (Brian) Lyngby of Mesa, Ariz., Leda Fields of Milton, Fla., Susan (James) Robinson of Vail, Ariz., and Betsy (Tim) Miller of Manistique; son, William (Mabel) Bartholomew of Garden; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his two half-brothers, Orville and Howard Pelletier.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Garden. Parish prayers will be recited at 6:45 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Garden with Father Antony Lukka officiating.
Burial with military honors will be held in the New Garden Cemetery at Garden Township.
