ESCANABA - An Escanaba man - accused of shooting another man in the face last month - was recently ordered to be bound over from Delta County District Court. In circuit court he may make a plea or go to trial.

Andrew Robert Maynard, 26, of Escanaba, was arrested after police responded to a 9-1-1 emergency call of a shooting on the 1500 block of North Lincoln Road around 10:30 p.m. on July 29.

The victim - a 20-year-old male - suffered a gunshot wound to the face. The man was taken by ambulance to OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, then transferred to Marquette General Health System.

He has since been released from the hospital, according to Escanaba Public Safety, the investigating agency.

Following the incident, Maynard was arrested on one count of careless discharge of a firearm causing injury or death. The misdemeanor carries a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment or a $2,000 fine.

Earlier this week, Maynard waived his right to a preliminary examination in district court, automatically binding the case over to circuit court. He remains lodged in the county jail in lieu of a $2,500 cash bond.
