Man pleads guilty to unarmed robbery

ESCANABA - A Cornell man pleaded guilty Tuesday to unarmed robbery in connection with robbing a camper in Baldwin Township earlier this summer. The plea agreement was made in Delta County Circuit Court.

Guy Henry Burket, 50, of 9498 County 416 H Road, Cornell, will be sentenced on the 15-year felony next month. He was arrested June 3 for allegedly robbing two campers in Baldwin Township, according to Delta County Sheriff Department, the investigating agency.

At Burket's preliminary examination in district court in June, he was bound over on one count of unarmed robbery against one victim. During a hearing in circuit court on Tuesday, Burket pleaded guilty to the charge. In exchange, a habitual offender notice was dismissed.

At approximately 5 a.m. on the morning of the incident, deputies responded to a complaint from two Wisconsin men who reported they were assaulted and robbed of money while camping.During the investigation, deputies arrested Burket. He was lodged in jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond. Sentencing is set for Sept. 27 in circuit court.
