BARK RIVER - Aleta Myrtle (Warne) Lohrey was surrounded by her loving family as she passed over into her Heavenly Father's arms on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility at the age of 104 years old.
Aleta Warne was born in Cornwall, England, on April 7, 1908, and moved with her family to Leadville, Colo., at the age of four. She sailed on the ship "The St. Louis" four hours ahead of the Titanic and arrived at Ellis Island. Aleta and her family moved to the Detroit area where she met and married her husband, Clarence, and raised their family.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and taking care of her family. In 2004 Aleta moved to Bark River to be closer to her family and resided there with her daughter and son-in-law.
She was a member of United Methodist Church in Madison Heights and Bark River United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son, Clarence "Butch" (Lori) Lohrey; and daughter, Joan (Sherwood) Taylor, both of Bark River; grandchildren, Diane (Rob) Reeves of Sterling Heights, David Huffman of Bark River, Jason Lohrey of Lexington, Scott (Stefanie) Lohrey of Bark River, Bethany and Jennifer Lohrey of Bark River; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Adian, Carter; and best friend for 104 years, Ivy McAlister from St. Louis, Mo.
She was preceded in death by husband, Clarence; and twin brothers, Albert and Alfred Warne of Berkley, Mich.
Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 17, in Royal Oak, Mich., with Pastor Christine Bergquist of Bark River United Methodist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks you to consider a contribution to the Commission for the Blind.
