ESCANABA - Delta County voters selected Tom Sabor over Hope Rudden in the Democratic race for Delta County treasurer by a vote of 1,797 to 1,379.

Sabor has filled the position since January, after being selected by a three-person committee last year to fill the remaining term of former treasurer Sandra Buckland, who retired in December.

"I'm very excited about it," said Sabor, upon hearing of his selection. "I'm overwhelmed by the support I received and I thank all the people that supported me during this time.

"It was a very tough election," he continued. "I'm hoping that with winning in the primary, I can carry this forward into the general election."

Sabor will now face Republican Rick Micheau in November's general election. Micheau received 1,109 votes running unopposed on the Republican side of the race.
