GLADSTONE - A Michigan State Police motor carrier officer is being credited with alerting a motorist her motorhome was on fire.

Motor Carrier Officer Erick Kestila spotted the motorhome Tuesday on the 1500 block of South Lake Shore Drive just after 3 p.m.

The motorhome was being driven by Nancy Burk of Harbor Springs, Mich. She and her dog were traveling east when Kestila, who was westbound, noticed flames under the vehicle.

Kestila stopped Burk, who was unaware of the fire. Burk and her dog were evacuated from the vehicle.

When Gladstone Public Safety and the Gladstone Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The motor home is considered a total loss, and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
