FORT WAYNE, Ind. - It wasn't a bad day's work for Brandon Punzel Sunday as he led the Delta County Junior Boys' Little League All-Stars (age 13-14) to a 14-3 baseball victory in five innings over DeSoto, Mo.
Punzel rapped home runs in all three of his official at bats and drove in eight runs. He cracked a three-run shot in the first inning, added a grand slam in the second and a leadoff homer in the fourth.
"The three-run homer definitely set the tone," said Delta County manager Tony Punzel. "We got good hitting throughout our lineup, which made it hard for them to pitch around anybody. We were 11-for-23. We were pretty balanced all the way around."
DeSoto intententionally walked Brandon Punzel in the fifth. Hunter Garling, however, then ripped a three-run blast to end the contest moments later.
Delta County used five pitchers, with starter Jake Peterson taking the win.
"We were able to save some arms," said manager Punzel. "Getting the first one in is huge."
Hunter LaMarch led a defense which committed four errors.
"Hunter did a great job at shortstop," said manager Punzel.
Delta County was scheduled to face defending regional champ North Canton, Oh. this morning and Fargo, N.D. at noon.
