NEGAUNEE - Police have released the name of a semi truck driver involved in an accident Friday that claimed the life of a motorcyclist.

Anthony L. Eagle, 46, was killed Friday morning after rear-ending a semi truck on U.S. 41 near M-35 in Negaunee Township. The truck was operated by Robert J. Young, 56, of Escanaba, and was owned by Upper Peninsula Concrete Pipe Co., also of Escanaba.

At 9:08 a.m., Eagle collided with the back of the truck when it began slowing to make a left turn from the east-bound lane. A press release from the Marquette County Sheriff's Department said preliminary investigation revealed the semi truck was traveling eastbound on U.S. 41 with the motorcycle following behind. Witnesses said the semi was slowing to make a left turn. The motorcyclist was apparently unable to stop for the slowing truck, and struck the rear of the semi.

Eagle was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is still under investigation by the Marquette County Sheriff's Office.
