More security needed at cemetery

August 3, 2012

EDITOR:

I am curious why more can't be done to safeguard the resting places of our loved ones at Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone. My amazing father is buried there and people steal things that our family has put on his grave. Flowers, solar lights, etc. I know this isn't an isolated incident as I have heard of many other families dealing with the same problems.

I know that Gladstone Public Safety patrols the area and they do what they can do to prevent this from happening, but it isn't enough.

Why can't cameras be installed or maybe spend a little of the city's money wisely and hire a night watchmen? This is getting ridiculous.

It's chronic thievery and destruction of property and I feel it should be taken more seriously. Maybe it's easy to dismiss it when it's not your loved one that it's happening to.
