GLADSTONE - Charges are being sought against a 32-year-old man who stole a vehicle from a construction site in Gladstone, later crashing it into the Gladstone Public Safety Building.
Police say the incident occurred at 6:06 p.m. Wednesday. According to Public Safety Officer Terry Larson, it appears the man had originally abandoned his own vehicle on Mather Avenue in Gladstone. He then stole a vehicle at the U.S. 2 & 41 overpass construction site before crashing into a garage door at Gladstone Public Safety. The stolen vehicle belonged to a construction worker.
The man was taken into custody and transported to St. Francis Hospital by Rampart EMS.
He was believed to be under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of the incident. His name is being withheld at this time, pending review from the Delta County prosecuting attorney.
The charges being sought in the incident include: motor vehicle theft, damage to police property, resisting and obstructing police, operating under the influence of drugs, and possession of analogues.
Larson said the incident resulted in some pretty substantial damage to the garage door. Also assisting at the scene was the Delta County Sheriff's Department.
