ESCANABA - An Escanaba man, accused of shooting another man in the face last weekend, was officially charged with careless discharge of a firearm during his court arraignment Monday.
Andrew Robert Maynard, 26, of Escanaba, allegedly shot a 20-year-old male in the face around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night at an apartment on the 1500 block of North Lincoln Road, according to Escanaba Public Safety which responded to the incident.
When officers arrived, the victim was lying on the apartment floor with a gunshot wound to his face. He was transported by Rampart Ambulance to OSF St. Francis Hospital then transferred to Marquette General Hospital. The victim was reported to be in stable condition Monday afternoon, said Det. Lt. Following the incident, Maynard was brought to public safety to be interviewed. He was arrested then lodged in the county jail where he remains in lieu of a $2,500 cash bond.
Maynard was arraigned Monday in Delta County District Court and charged with careless discharge of a firearm causing injury or death. The charge carries a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment or a $2,000 fine.
Maynard was ordered not to have any contact with the victim. He is scheduled for a preliminary examination in district court on Thursday.
Investigation into the incident is on-going, said Hunter.
