ESCANABA - An Escanaba man was hospitalized for a gunshot wound to the face while another man was lodged in jail in connection with the shooting in Escanaba Sunday night, said local police.
Escanaba Public Safety officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex on the city's north side at around 10:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 20-year-old Escanaba man lying on the apartment floor with a gunshot wound to his face, according to a news release.
The victim was transported by Rampart Ambulance to OSF St. Francis Hospital then transferred to Marquette General Hospital, said police.
A 26-year-old Escanaba man, suspected of being responsible for the shooting, was interviewed by police at Escanaba Public Safety, then arrested and lodged on a weapons offense, according to the news release. The name of the suspect is being withheld pending his arraignment in Delta County District Court.
In addition to emergency medical personnel, Public Safety officers were assisted with the investigation by the Michigan State Police, Delta County Sheriff Department, Delta County Prosecutor's Office and the Michigan State Police Laboratory in Marquette.
The investigation is ongoing, added police, who could not release further details prior to press time.
