ROCK - Elizabeth P. "Betty" Liukkonen, 93, of 13572 Camp 9 Road, Rock, passed away Wednesday evening, July 25, 2012, at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba.
Betty was born Feb. 6, 1919, in Escanaba, the daughter of Maxime and Mary (Willette) Rheaume.
She was raised in Escanaba where she attended the St. Joseph Catholic School and later Escanaba Public Schools.

Betty was united in marriage to Veikko Liukkonen in 1939 and they made their home in Rock where they raised their son, Wayne. Betty was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins and the Rock Senior Center. Her hobbies included cake decorating and making crafts. Her family fondly remembers her Christmas ornaments and bead jewelry.
Survivors include her son, Wayne (Anita) Liukkonen of Rock; grandchildren, Lynn Summers of Escanaba, Randy (Teresa) Liukkonen of Phoenix, Ariz., Scott (Cindy) Liukkonen of Gladstone; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Veikko in 1994; brothers, Donald and Leonard; sisters, Ellen Caron, Violet Norby and Elma Wilson; special friend, Leo Laitinen, preceded Betty in death.
Betty's family will receive friends on Saturday, July 28, 2012, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins with Rev. Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. Luncheon will follow in the St. Joseph Parish Hall.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Rock Cemetery.
