In 1992 to honor Altrusa International's 75th birthday, the local club launched the Altrusa Beautifies City Project with flower boxes on each corner of the intersection of US 2 & 41 and Highway 35. A few years later the flowers moved and grew to the five large circle planters at the Escanaba Municipal Dock at the northern entrance of Ludington Park. Altrusa members Frances Michaels, Karen Bartosz, Karen Meiers, Denise Boyle and Cathy Gerou prepared the plots and/or planted flowers for the ABC's 20th season. Pictured at work on the project are Altrusans, Denise Boyle, left, and Cathy Gerou.
