BARK RIVER - Alice E. King, age 86, passed away peacefully, at the Emmons Adult Care Home in Bark River, on Saturday, July 14, 2012, following a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Alice was born May 26, 1926 in Engadine, the daughter of Everett and Tillie (Hahn) Robinson. She grew up on the family farm there, and graduated from Engadine High School in 1945. She was united in marriage to John S King, on May 24, 1946 in Engadine. She and John made their home and raised their family in Naubinway, where she remained until ill health forced their move to Escanaba in 1998. She was predeceased by her husband, John, in December of 2001, and continued living at the Bishop Noa Assisted Living Home in Escanaba, until her move to the Emmon's AFC Home, July 3, 2006.
Alice was a parishioner of St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Naubinway. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, having made baby clothes, afghans, toys, pillows, doll clothes, baby clothes and anything else for which she could "figure out" the pattern, then giving as gifts to family and friends to enjoy. She loved working in her yard and had beautiful flower gardens over the years. Alice loved children and was Grandma, not only to her own, but to many of the neighborhood children as well. She always treated them with a piece of gum or candy that she always had in her purse. Many was the night she and John could be seen coming from their nightly ride, looking for deer and (greylocks), to sit around the camp fire, chatting with family and friends, roasting S'mores.

Alice is survived by four sons, John T. (Patsy) of St Johns, Mich., Gary (Cynthia) of Phoenix, Ariz., Brent (Connie) of Grand Ledge, Mich., and Brian (Sandra) of Tallahassee, Fla.; one daughter, Susan Bigelow of Escanaba; 16 grandchildren, Patrick (Christine), Lori, Kevin (Cari), Jeff (Erika), Mandy (Mark), Marc (Jennifer), Matthew (Melissa), Amber (Bryan), Lindsey (fiancee Jon), Jason, Aaron (Laurie), Gina (Phil), Jody, Steven, Kristen, and Kayla; 12 great-grandchildren, Daniel, Megan, Christopher, Michael, Emma, Lucas, Alexis, Evan, Emma, Rachael, Ryan, and Mason, with two more expected in August and January; one sister, Alma Allen of Colorado, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are very special friends, Walter J. Sheedlo, and Mike and Gayle Emmons, and their children, Lindsey, Addie, Andy, AJ, and Amy, whom she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; one granddaughter, Katherine; her parents; two brothers, Harold (Lucille) and Herman (Irene) Robinson; and three sisters, Ethel (Jim Wood, Gordon) Thompson, Louise (Ray) Mattson, and Wanda (Lee) Osterberg.
Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, July 24 from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Stephens Catholic Church in Naubinway. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. at the church with Rev. Fr. Frank Lenz, friend of the family, officiating. Burial will take place immediately following services in the Naubinway Cemetery. A luncheon will be served following the burial in the church fellowship hall. The family is being assisted by the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba.
