Patricia Ann Polkinghorne

GLADSTONE - Patricia Ann Polkinghorne, 82, of Gladstone passed away Sunday, July 8, 2012, at home with her family at her side, following a lengthy illness.

Patricia was born April 19, 1930 in Escanaba, Mich., the daughter of Charles and Agnes (Boyle) Themel. She was united in marriage to Henry Polkinghorne on June 11, 1949, in Escanaba. In 1968 Patricia graduated from the nursing program at Bay de Noc College. She was the owner and operator of the Shady Acres Adult Foster Care Home in Gladstone from 1969 to 1980.

Following her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family, relaxing at her camp in Stonington, going to the casino and Friday night fish frys. Patricia was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness in Escanaba and enjoyed sewing and crocheting, donating most of the items to the Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul and various veteran's organizations.

Patricia is survived by three sons, David of Columbus, Kan., Bruce (Lisa) of Great Bend, Kan., and Paul (Lisa) of Skandia; three daughters, Sue (Jerry) DuRoy, Karen Cass, and Penny (Gordon) Rouse, all of Gladstone; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill (Barb) Themel of Wilson and James R. "Dick" (Hildagard) Themel of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three sisters, Dympna Gray of Gladstone, Judy (Robert) Hagen of Townsend, Wis., Sally (Jim) Vincent of St.Charles, Mo., and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, Melvin "Mike" Polkinghorne, and her parents.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 12, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Gerald Glasure officiating. A luncheon will follow the services at the home of Patricia's daughter, Sue. Patricia will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
