As we proudly celebrate freedom there is nothing better than coming to Manistique to watch the parade, enjoy the fireworks and spend time with our families to cheer on our freedom. As part of every major holiday my mother, Guerda Frenette and the family go the to Lindsley Frenette Pines Park and decorate the sign at the entrance of the park in memory of her husband, my father. We reminisce about the fun we have had through the years as we get to work and when we are done we drive by the park and remark about how nice it looks and think of how proud Dad was to be a part of Schoolcraft County - it was his passion.
The same decorating took place for Memorial Day as it does for the 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Imagine my mother's disappointment after decorating the sign on Friday only to drive by the park on Sunday and all the decorations were gone. To whoever felt it necessary to take away my mother's pride, shame on you. I cannot imagine who would do so or what you have against someone who also has volunteered for more than a half a century to make the county a better place to live. Why don't you surprise us and put them back as well as give an anonymous donation to the 4th of July committee which both her and my dad have volunteered year after year many times as a committee of four so that you and your family could enjoy a great parade and awesome fireworks vs. having to leave the area? Bet you won't though.
