Communities throughout the area will celebrate the Fourth of July this week. Here's a rundown of some of the scheduled local events:
Escanaba
Escanaba's Independence Day celebration will be held at Ludington Park with a full slate of family activities planned for Wednesday, July 4. The Independence Day celebration at Ludington Park culminates with the Rotary Club of Escanaba "Family Day in the Park" activities.
There will be children's games from 1 to 5 p.m. Abracadabra inflatable climbing wall, moonwalk, slide and other activities are planned from 1 p.m. until dusk.
Escanaba Public Safety will have a fire truck display, Jaws of Life demonstration and police dog demonstrations at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Food and novelty vendors will be in the park from 1 to 11 p.m.
The Air Force 148th Fighter Wing Unit, a volunteer unit, will conduct a fly-over consisting of two F-16 jets during the late afternoon between 6-8 p.m. weather permitting.
The July 4th Celebration continues during the evening hours at Ludington Park with the Escanaba City Band performance at the Karas Band Shell at 8:30 p.m. featuring favorite patriotic tunes and marches until dusk.
Wednesday's activities will conclude with a fireworks display scheduled to begin at dusk approximately 10:15 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks will be rescheduled for Thursday, July 5, at dusk.
Manistique
Celebrations in Manistique begin Friday, July 6, with a kiddie parade. Line-up will be at 5 p.m. in front of the post office.
On Saturday, July 7, there will be an art fair and food booths at the marina from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Independence Day parade starts at 12:30 p.m. with line-up at 11:30 a.m. on the west side of town. There will be as fireworks display at the marina at 10:30 p.m. A rain date is scheduled for Saturday, July 14, at 10:30 p.m.
Bark River
An Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration will be held Wednesday in Bark River.
The parade begins at Rays Feedmill at 11 a.m (EDT) and ends at the Bark River Sports Park. Monetary prizes will be given for floats. Floats and parade participants, vintage cars, kids floats, horses and more are all welcome with a non-entry fee. Pre-registration is helpful, but not necessary.
Entertainment will be provided all day at the Bark River Sports Park with Heartland Express. Food and refreshments will also be on the grounds.
Fireworks begin at dusk.
Hermansville
The Hermansville July 4th celebration will be held on Wednesday, July 4 at the Hermansville Lake and Park.
The parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. with lineup starting at 9 a.m. Register in the area of the Stewart Manufacturing Company parking lot. For further information on the parade call 906-235-4842 or 906-498-2421.
Prizes for the parade are: first prize, $400; second prize, $150; third prize, $75; and fourth prize, $50. Antique car first prize is $50 with second prize at $25. Classic car prizes are $50 first prize and $25 second prize. ORV first prize is $25 and $15 second prize. Two prizes for bicycles at $10 each.
Featured at the celebration will be the parade at 10 a.m. The "Mud Run" races and games for children. The 15th annual Hermansville Car Club show will be held on the grounds of the IXL Historical Museum. The IXL Historical Museum and the Vietnam Veterans Association Museum will be open all day. Fireworks at dusk by Meyer Township Volunteer Fire Department.
The Floriano-Stecker American Legion Post 340 and the William Anderson Sport and Recreation Club are sponsoring the celebration. They have sponsored the celebration for nearly 40 years.
Powers-Spalding
The Powers-Spalding Independence Day celebration, sponsored by the American Legion Post 244, Sons of the American Legion 244, and Auxiliary 244, will kick off with a parade at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3. A celebration at Veteran's Memorial Park in Powers will follow the parade and will include food, refreshments, volleyball, basketball, horse shoe, and kids games, including eleven air rides by Abra Cadabra and a fishing derby from 6-7:30. Music will be provided by Oz from 6-11. Rides home from the park are available. All times are central daylight time.
Trenary
The Trenary Lions Club will host its 77th annual Independence Day Celebration July 4. The parade starts at 11 a.m. A big midway with games, pony rides, Mickeys pasties, beer stand, raffle, and more will start a noon. Music provided by Maudie at 1 p.m. along with a co-ed volleyball tournament. Starting at 6:30 music will be provided by the Flitch Band. Parking for the event is free.
