We want to publicly thank the kind citizens of Escanaba for the help they gave us on our recent Michigan vacation. We were traveling from Minnesota to Traverse City when our vehicle broke down at the intersection of Highway 2 and Lincoln Road. It just stopped running and even the flashers wouldn't work. As we directed the traffic behind us, someone in the car next to us said, "Get it into the BP station. They have a great mechanic." Sounded easy enough, but how would we get it into the BP? No problem as suddenly four or five guys got in front of the car and began to push it into the station.
One of the guys, who we later found out was named Peanut, asked if we needed a ride anywhere. We told him we were looking for a hotel to spend the night , and he informed us that he owns the Best Western, so we took him up on his offer. How can you not trust someone named Peanut.
The mechanic at BP called to tell us the problem was a dead battery and the parts store wouldn't open until noon the next day as it was a Sunday. The next morning he called to say he got the parts store owner to open an hour early so we could get going earlier.
We want all the people who helped us know how much we appreciate them. As a side note, earlier in the day someone in Wisconsin had asked us why we Minnesotans would come to Wisconsin, we said it was the only way to get to Michigan. After our experience, we might now say, "Because if your car is about to break down, have it break down in Michigan."
