CURTIS - The community of Curtis will host its 39th annual Independence Day celebration on July 1. There will be over 40 art and craft booths and food and refreshment tents open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. as well as children's games, rock climbing, and more.
Leading the parade and stepping off at 12:30 the color guard made up of the Coast Guard, Department of Home Security, V.F.W., American Legion and other veteran groups. Plaques will be awarded to the best float or marching unit highlighting this years theme, "Our Veterans and their families."
Performing bands include: Kalamazoo Bag Pipe Band, Newberry High School, Navy League (boys and girls to age 13), and back by popular demand the Petoskey Steel Drum Band. All bands will play a short concert on the grounds after the parade.
The Navy League Band is just one of a number of bands that will perform during the Independence Day celebration planned for July 1 in Curtis.
The celebration will be capped off with a fireworks show at dusk. Fireworks are sponsored by the Three Lakes Area Fireworks Council.
