WALLED LAKE, Mich. - Valerie Landwehr, an 11th-grade student at Walled Lake Northern, was crowned Miss Teen Michigan United States 2012 after careful evaluation of her scholastic achievements, community involvment, and success in national model searches.
The daughter of Ronald and Annette Landwehr of Commerce Township, Valerie is the great-niece of long-time local residents, Gail and the late Irving Houle. She is a member of the Walled Lake Northern High School National Honors Society and Student Council.
"I am very passionate about aiding in the fight against hunger - especially since one in five people face hunger in metro-Detroit," Valerie said.
Forgotten Harvest is an organization that is very dear to her because it provides direct relief to people who struggle to feed their families. Love Our Children USA is another organization that she supports because it aids in the prevention of violence and neglect against children, she said.
Valerie is currently a junior but she plans to graduate early and attend college in Los Angeles, Calif., where her sister, Taylor lives. She intends to study nutritional psychology at UCLA.
