BARK RIVER - James J. Jarvis, of Bark River, passed away at home after a bout with bone cancer on June 23, 2012. He was born on Nov. 1, 1935, to Leslie and Margaret (Wiedeman) Jarvis of Rhinelander, Wis. Jim attended Rhinelander school. In May of 1956 he married Flora Lee (Ives) from Stephenson, Mich.
Jim worked for Andis Clipper Company of Racine, Wis. He went on to work as a machinist for Styburg Engineering of Racine, Wis. In 1970 they moved back to the U.P. and took up farming for the next 17 years in Perronville. During this time and for 13 years after, he was a volunteer fireman for the Harris Township Fire Department and also did carpentry work, which he continued to do until early this year. Jim worked with Habitat for Humanity for five years.
Jim loved hunting, fishing and especially ice fishing in Montana and traveling to Arizona and Florida in the motor home. Jim loved working in the gardens and spending time at the pond in the backyard.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Virginia and Patricia; brothers, Lesley Jr., Robert, Allen, and Gerald.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, DeeDee; three sons, John (Diane),Tim (Heather) and Mark (Diane); seven grandchildren, Ashley, Cindy (Jeremy) Williams, Amanda, Josh, Kent, Kendell and Timmy. Jim also has two great-grandchildren, Greg and Peyton Williams, and one on the way; sisters, Harriette (Cliff) Knaup of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., Betty Gross, Janice (Ronald) Peterson, Joan (Ed) Ruether, all of Rhinelander, Wis.; brothers, Richard (Shirley) Jarvis of Franksville, Wis., William (Eileen) Jarvis of Salome, Ariz., Lawrence (Sandy) Jarvis of Pocatello, Idaho; brother-in-law, Ken Williams of Rhinelander; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bark River Bible Church with services to follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Brad Cochrane officiating.
A luncheon will follow at the church. Burial will take place at St. Michael's Cemetery in Perronville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jarvis family in Jim's name and a memorial will be decided upon at a later date.
The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Jarvis family with arrangements.
