ESCANABA - Lawrence (Larry) E. Haack, 98, of 906 7th. Ave. S., Escanaba, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012, at his home in Escanaba. He was born Aug. 11, 1913, in Milwaukee, Wis., and was the son of Arthur and Emma (Stark) Haack. Larry was raised by his stepmother Louise Haack, graduated from Wauwatosa High School and later from the University of Michigan with a degree in forestry.
He married the former Lorraine Anderson on Oct. 15, 1942, in Fort Benning, Ga. Larry served in the U.S. Army during World War II from April 28, 1941, until he was honorably discharged on Sept. 19, 1945. Larry was employed with the state of South Carolina in forestry for two years and then with the U.S. Forest Service, moving to Escanaba in 1963 and retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church and the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Escanaba.
Lawrence (Larry) E. Haack is survived by: wife, Lorraine; daughter, Nancy (John) Ward of Cheboygan, Mich.; sons, Paul (Marcia) Haack of Portland, Ore., and Mark Haack of Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Rodney Spence of Escanaba; neighbor, Faye Nyquist of Escanaba.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers George and Charles Haack.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Lawrence (Larry) E. Haack will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bethany Lutheran Church with Rev. Dean Peterson officiating. Light refreshments will be served following the funeral service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the Salvation Army or the ELCA World Hunger Program. Envelopes will be available at the Anderson Funeral Home or at the church.
