EDITOR:
In the May 25 Daily Press is a letter to the editor which says "It is general knowledge that over 95 percent of Catholics practice contraception"
No qualifications.
I couldn't find a distribution of Catholics by age so am using guesstimates.
I would say at least 50 percent of Catholics are over age 50 and not practicing contraception. Similarly Catholics from birth to age 17 are not practicing contraception. This could be another 17 percent. Also there are singles and religious.
So I say 95 percent is misleading, whether stated deliberately or inadvertently. The number would probably be 33 percent or less. But when attacking the Catholic Church some tend to exaggerate or are reckless.
Speak the truth with love.
