Marian Lillian Christensen

MAYETTA, Kan. - Marian Lillian Christensen, 90, formerly of Escanaba, Mich., passed away on June 4, 2012, at Medical Lodges of Holton, Kan. She was born Nov. 29, 1921, the daughter of Malvin and Marie (Silk) Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Francis Christensen.

Marian was an active volunteer at the Bishop Noa nursing home for many years in Escanaba. She was also a member of the Escanaba Eagles. She enjoyed traveling and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She retired from Chicago North Western railroad as a switch board operator in Chicago in 1983.

She grew up in Chicago, Ill., and following her retirement moved to Escanaba, Mich., with her husband. In August of 2011 she moved to Mayetta, Kan.

She is survived by her daughter, Ellen (Ed) Sliva of Chicago; granddaughter, Corinne (Robert) Lange of Mayetta, Kan.; grandsons, Edward (Jennifer) Sliva, Joseph Sliva, and Stanley (Marge) Sliva, all of Chicago. She had three great-grandsons, Robbie, Ryan and Rory Lange, and four great-granddaughters, Amelia, Abigail, Madelyn, and Allison Sliva. Marian had many nieces and nephews.

"Grandma" Marian was known for her warmth, generosity and all the time she spent caring for others at the Bishop Noa home. She will be dearly missed.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 7, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. Marian will be laid to rest next to her husband, Edward, in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Escanaba.
