Winners named in Bay Area Art Association show

ESCANABA - Winners in the Bay Area Art Association annual membership show were announced on May 17 at the Artists' Reception at the Bonifas Arts Center. The show features area artists in all media, and is on display through June 28.

Best of Show award went to Brian Burroughs for "End of the Rainbow," a graphite piece with mixed media elements. Karla Sunn won first place for her oil painting, "Nature's Calligraphy." Second place went to Mary Ellen Fassbender's watercolor "Spider Mum." "Carved Bear Skull," a hand-carved cow skull with acrylic by Mike Delke, took third place.

Honorable mentions were awarded to: Monica Miller-Mortel for "Surprise Falls," watercolor; George Netchey for "Large Turned Vase" in zebra, wormy hickory, padauk and walnut woods; Deborah Abramson for her lampwork glass and hand-forged copper piece "Counterpoint;" and Sara Bagley for her pen and ink drawing "Upon Returning."

Winners in Bay Area Art Association’s Annual Membership Show line up along the wall in the Powers Gallery at the Bonifas Arts Center. The show features area artists in a variety of media and is on display through June 28.
