ESCANABA - Firefighters were called out to a fire that broke out in an Escanaba apartment this morning.
No one was in the building at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters were at the scene at press time, controlling a fire at the corner of Stephenson Avenue and 2nd Avenue North, at the former location of John's Store.

Flames and smoke come out of a second-story window of an apartment at the corner of Stephenson Avenue and 2nd Avenue North this morning when Escanaba Public Safety responded to the emergency. No one was home at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported at press time.
When Public Safety arrived before 9 a.m., smoke and flames were coming out of a second-floor window where the building's owner, Richard Johnson, lived. He was not at home at the time of the blaze.
He was at a friend's house a few blocks away when a relative called him about the fire at his apartment.
"I'm alright," Johnson said as he watched smoke come from his apartment window and firefighters go in and out of the building. "I'm a little shook up," he added. Family and friends were there for him. An American Red Cross representative was also on hand.
Johnson said he has owned the building for three years.
Cause of the fire was not determined, said fire officials who will investigate the blaze and damage.
