ESCANABA - John Stacey of Escanaba topped a field of 26 runners in the Bay de Noc 10-kilometer Home Run Saturday, covering the 6.2-mile course in 40 minutes, 39 seconds.

He was followed by Jason Fudala of Gladstone (42:22) and Stephen Merki of Escanaba (44:48).

"The field wasn't real big, but the race was well run," said Stacey. "The race officials and volunteers did a great job. It's good that (race director) Bobbie (Stacey) was able to design two courses for this event. Now, it's just a matter of building on that."

Jillian Dolkey of Wetmore took the women's crown at 47:31, followed by Casey Young of Gladstone (50:53) and Carolyn Stacey of Escanaba (51:41).

"I'm pleased with my time," said Dolkey, who hopes to do a half-marathon in the Twin Cities in early August. "It was an awesome day. The weather turned out real nice. This is a great way to start the day."

A husband and wife from Marquette were winners of the 5-K, which drew 136.
