ESCANABA - A seven-run fourth inning helped the Escanaba Eskymos overcome a rather listless start Friday as they posted an 8-2 softball victory over the Cheboygan Chiefs in the first game of a twinbill.
Held hitless for three innings by Holly Socolovitch, the Eskymos collected five hits and used a couple of errors to take control.
The uprising began harmlessly when Jen Koish's blooper to left-center was dropped and she hustled into second base, courtesy of a wild throw that nearly sailed into the Chiefs' dugout.

Codi Jenshak of Escanaba holds off on swinging at a pitch near her eyes Friday in the opener against Cheboygan. Jenshak was also the winning pitcher in the 8-2 victory.
Kayli VanEffen followed with an RBI double to left-center, then Zoe Berquist bounced a single off the pitcher's glove to score VanEffen with the go-ahead run.
Syd Gafner then drilled a two-run single to right-center, Mallory Zimmerman followed with a two-run double to the fence in left-center, and Codi Jenshak lofted a double to the fence in left.
Just that quick the Eskymos took control. They added another run in the fifth on another Cheboygan error that scored Braedyn Bosilovatz, who singled to start the inning.
Jenshak was the winning pitcher, with Makayla Schuster working the final two innings.
Cheboygan scored an unearned run in the top of the fourth and added a run on a single in the sixth.
Details on the second game weren't available.
