Stephenson High School's Art club focuses on the visual arts through school and community service projects. One recent project Terra Stenberg's art students have been working on is the improvement of the High School's courtyard. The benches used by the students were in need of a good sanding and new paint job. State cuts in the last few years have put that job low on the list of priorities. With approval of the principal, art teacher and students got to work. Fellow teacher, Gerald Whitens, had his woodshop students ready the benches by sandblasting them. Money for all paints and materials was supplied by the art instructor. The art students went to work creating murals depicting one of the four elements on each of the benches. Shown with the recently completed "water" element bench is a mural of a Koi pond. Students pictured are: from left, Lexi Johnson, Tessa Rye, Megan Zahorik, Shelby Belanger, Megan Grinsteiner, and Katie White.
