This week's bouquets go to:
From OSF Home Care Services:
"April is National Volunteer Month, a time in which OSF Home Care Services would like to express appreciation for its dedicated volunteers.
"Volunteers are the core and heart of any hospice program," said Donna Medina, vice president for OSF Home Care and Hospice. "We thank our hospice volunteers and highlight the need for more volunteers in this important healthcare ministry For some of patients, our volunteers and staff are the only company they receive.
"Hospice volunteers are used in many different ways, including spending time with patients and their families, running errands, grocery shopping, staying with the patient so the caregiver can go to appointments, as well as for more traditional duties such as doing clerical work and staffing health fairs. Quite simply, hospice volunteers help us provide whatever the patient and family members need most to ease their hearts and minds and focus on their loved one.
"Hospice volunteers are trained by OSF Home Care Services staff and assigned to patients. During training, volunteers learn about hospice; the OSF team; death and dying; signs and symptoms of diagnosis; how to handle situations with the patients and their loved ones; religious and cultural diversity; and grief issues.
"To learn more about volunteering with OSF Home Care Services, contact Ilene Kotajarvi, Escanaba volunteer coordinator, at (906) 786-3915 or visit www.osfhomecare.org."
