The heart of the contraceptive issue

March 23, 2012
Daily Press

EDITOR:

I am writing in response to Mr. Floyd Orn's letter of March 17 concerning Bishop Alexander Sample's column on March 14, "An accommodation - not." Mr. Orn's statements have led me to reply to his letter.

In my opinion as a Christian woman, the heart of the matter is whether all religious organizations including churches should be required to pay for women's healthcare via insurance companies when it goes against Christian belief and creed. Christian organizations should take offense at this as it calls into question whether the government has the right to require them to pay for abortive procedures and contraceptives within their health care plans via insurance premium payments.

More importantly, it brings up the main issue which is a moral dilemma for a Christian; that a contraceptive taken after conception which causes the death of a conceived child is abortion. This goes against God's commandment, biblical teaching and the Christian belief that "human life begins at conception".
