SCHAFFER - Violet M. Lantagne, 93, Schaffer, passed away on Thursday evening, March 15, 2012, at her daughter's home in Gladstone.
She was born on Aug. 20, 1918, in Schaffer, the daughter of the late Theophile and Zelma (Simard) Bouchard. On May 21, 1935, she married the late William A. Lantagne in Schaffer.
Violet attended grade school in Schaffer and went to high school in Escanaba. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Schaffer and Holy Family Church in Flat Rock. Violet enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and considered herself as their No. 1 fan, she also enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, playing cards, gardening and was an excellent cook. She will be remembered by her family as a very loving mother to all her children, especially her son, Paul.
Violet is survived by: four children, Louis (Rose) Lantagne of Diamond, Ohio, William (Sally) Lantagne of Perronville, Audrey (Ben) Herioux of Bark River, and JoAnn (Alan) Stotz of Gladstone; two sisters: Bernadette Germain and May Carlson; nine grandchildren, Paul (Kathy), Wayne (Julie Hacker), Brian (Sara) and Mark (Tiffany) Herioux, Todd Lantagne, Laura (John) Leiendecker, Lisa Lantagne, Teri (Andrew) Jorasz and Traci (Corey Nelson) Bell; 15 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Edward (Nookie) Lantagne; three sisters-in-law, Elaine Lantagne, Angeline LaMarche and Jeanette Lantagne, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Paul David Lantagne; one grandson, Brent Lantagne; six brothers and six sisters.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the church, with Fr. Jose Maramattam officiating. A luncheon will follow Mass in the Fr. Matt Hall at church. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
