Pain at the pump is back and it's getting worse fast. If you think gas prices are high now analysts have an ominous warning for you as gas prices could reach $5 or more by this summer. Remember when things were different four years ago when Bush was president; back then everything was his fault. When gas prices hit $4 a gallon in 2008, then candidate Barack Obama said it was due to previous failed energy policies, while Nancy Pelosi blamed two "Oil Men." In August of that year, Obama claimed rising energy costs to be "one of the most dangerous and urgent threats this nation has ever faced' and that gas prices "are wiping out paychecks and straining businesses." Now that gas prices are on track to shatter previous records, President Obama calls it progress.
Most recently during a February visit in Miami, Obama focused on high gas prices by stating, "Now some politicians always see this as a political opportunity, you're shocked I know. Gasoline prices are on the rise, and the Republicans are licking their chops." Obama further quipped, "You know there are no quick fixes to this problem, and you know we can't just drill our way to lower prices." What did Obama say about Bush in 2008 again? I believe it was, "rising energy costs is one of the most dangerous and urgent threats this nation has ever faced, and that gas prices are wiping out paychecks and straining businesses." President Obama is likely counting on voters to having lousy memories as he was quick to criticize Bush for failed energy policies, however, according to his Energy Secretary Stephen Chu, President Obama has little interest in lowering gas prices - and in fact sees those prices as an opportunity to further push the administrations 'Green' energy programs.
Most Americans understand increasing tensions in the Middle East plays a part in high prices at the pump; in fact Americans have been paying dearly since the 1979 oil crises under President Carter and OPEC. President Bush announced plans in 2008 to lift the moratorium on offshore drilling; Obama dismissed it, saying "it would merely prolong the failed energy policies we have seen from Washington for 30 years." In January 2009, the month Obama took office, the average price of a gallon of gasoline was $1.85, and according to the Washington Times gas prices are up 100 percent today under President Obama and his radical energy policy's. What President Obama fails to realize is our growing dependence on foreign oil puts our great nation at a greater risk in an unstable world, and this instability helps drive the costs higher.
The U.S. dollar has lost tremendous value under President Obama's monetary policies, oil is traded in dollars, and its price therefore rises when the value dollar falls.
President Obama instead of aggressively expanding domestic oil production, he offered a set of ridiculous alternatives, hugely wasteful "Green" energy subsidies like the Solyndra solar plant. Another is subsidizing the purchase of high costs electric cars like the flammable Chevy Volt. Solyndra went bankrupt, and Chevy's Volt isn't selling even with taxpayer funded rebates.
What we know for sure with President Obama that he has no real plans to boost domestic oil production; even with practical measures proving America has more oil than Saudi Arabia with a massive 200 billion barrel oil field located in North Dakota. President Obama said no to Keystone, ANWAR, and added a tidal wave of regulations to drilling on land and in the Gulf, however told the Saudi's to produce more oil.
Meanwhile, President Obama claims he cares about the little guy this election year, but the little guy is forced to pay increasingly higher gas prices until they've submitted to the prescribed change with green energies. So, all you little guys next time you fill up ask yourself, how many gallons of gas do you make an hour?
