ESCANABA - Philip L. "Phil" LaMarch, 92, 1411 S. 14th St. Escanaba, passed away on Tuesday morning, Feb. 14, 2012, at the home of his daughter with his family at his side.
He was born on July 24, 1919, in Flat Rock, son of Morris and Alphonsus LaMarch. Phil attended Riverland School.
On July 7, 1945, Philip LaMarch married Leona Richer at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock. Leona, his wife of 56 years, was the love of his life. She preceded him in death.

Phil was best known as a pioneer in the business world. He began his career in the used car business operating Phil's Used Cars. He later moved into the RV and mobile home business. He built the first modern manufactured home community (Fair View Estates) in the Upper Peninsula. He later expanded his business to the modern day manufactured home and modular home business. His sons, Dennis and Rick LaMarch currently operate Phil and Lee's Homes, the business Phil and Leona LaMarch started.
For the past 32 years, he spent winters at his home in Florida and enjoyed summers in Escanaba.
Phil enjoyed a large and loving family. Phil loved his family. He enjoyed gardening and the Florida sunshine. In his retirement, he became an avid walker.
He was a devoted Catholic and enjoyed being a church usher until his health declined.
Phil LaMarch is survived by five daughters and three sons, Charlene (Neil) Carlson of Escanaba, Carol LaMarch of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Diane LaMarch of San Diego, Calif., Therese (Patrick) Fitzgerald of Murdock, Fla, Mary LaMarch of Escanaba, Dennis (Linda) LaMarch, Steve (Patti) LaMarch, Ricky (Lori) LaMarch all of Escanaba; 19 grandchildren; Holly (Greg) Thomma, Catherine, Jodi, Art (Jesse) Carlson, Phil (Sara) LaMarch, Felicia and Teena Rifenburgh, Scott (Michelle) Thibodeau, Amy Goff, Lori (Chris) Wheeler, Chris Fitzgerald, Sarah (Mike) Eversole, Zachariah and Magdaline Hayes, Leanne (Matt) LaBonte, Bryan (Lindsey) LaMarch, Tyler LaMarch, Lindsey (Jamie) McDonough and Ryan LaMarch; 16 great-grandchildren, Sloane, Phil, Payten, Zowie, Jocelyn, Caden, Colton, Emily, Delaney, Owen, Carsyn, Amery, Chloe, Omar, Carter and Addisyn; sister-in-law, Cecile Fillion of Escanaba; many nieces and nephew; and special friend, Phyllis Larsen.
In addition to his wife and parents; he was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be on Sunday, Feb. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba with parish prayers to follow at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with Rev. Rick Courier officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
