HERMANSVILLE -?North Menominee County Community Schools students in grades 5-8 participated in the 2012 Upper Peninsula Community Education Association's District Spelling Bee in late January.
The event was held at North Central Elementary School in Hermansville. Participating schools were Bark River-Harris, Carney-Nadeau, Hannahville and North Central.
Judges for the spelling bee were: Jan Hafeman, retired North Central teacher; Jay Brand, who teaches at Carney-Nadeau; and Lisa Hall, a teacher at Bark River-Harris.
The two winners from each grade have qualified to advance to compete in the regional spelling bee that will be held at North Central in Hermansville on Feb. 21 along with top winners from the Gladstone School District.
Other participants included:
Bark River-Harris - Fifth grade: Hunter Debelak (4th) and James Sommers (10th); Sixth grade: Kate Maher (3rd); Seventh grade: Tianna Halfaday (6th); Eighth grade: Dylan Draze (4th) and Cody Vanbrocklin (5th).
Carney-Nadeau - Fifth grade: Samantha Seymour (5th), Alanis Harris (7th), and Macie Thoune (9th); Sixth grade: Trenton Schaff (4th), John Warren (7th), and Jordan Janofski (8th); Seventh grade: John Berg (5th) and Christian Fadroski (8th); Eighth grade: Marinda Miller (3rd) and Jared Gerlach (7th).
Hannahville - Fifth grade: Franny Kidd (8th); Sixth grade: Rudy Troxell (9th), Dayson Beaver (10th), and Cecilia Beaver (11th).
North Central - Fifth grade: Mercedes Mcleod (3rd place) and Dean Bellmore (6th); Sixth grade: Tyler Hansen (5th) and Macy Whitens (7th); Seventh grade: Seth Polfus (3rd), Sarah Granquist (4th), and Jon King (7th); Eighth grade: Noah VanEnkevort (6th) and Trenton Smith (8th).
