AAUW plans membership event to support Alliance Against Abuse

ESCANABA - The AAUW Escanaba Area Branch will host a New Year's Membership Potluck gathering on Thursday, Jan. 19, at 6 p.m. at the home of President Susan Peterson, 720 Lake Shore Drive, Escanaba. Members are requested to bring dishes to share according to last name initial as follows: A-F - main dish; G-L - appetizers; M-R - desserts; S-Z - side or salad. Guests of members are welcome.

The membership is reminded to bring donations to support the Alliance Against Abuse: monetary donations; gift cards; laundry, cleaning, paper, or personal bath products; candy; books; gloves; hats, etc. AAUW member and Alliance Against Abuse Board Chair, Shannon Taylor, will deliver donations.

At the same time, members may also RSVP to Kathy for the Feb. 16 AAUW Book Night she is hosting at 7 p.m. The theme for this event is "Women We Admire/Women Who Inspire." Members will share a biography of a woman who has influenced their life from any field - contemporary or historical.

AAUW's mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. In principle and in practice, AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin or disability. Men and women holding a two-year associate degree from an accredited college or university are eligible for AAUW membership.
