BARK RIVER - Don and Vicki Shirley of Bark River are planning to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Turks & Caicos Islands with their children, Brooke and Todd, daughter-in-law Tazio, and grandson Ace.
The Shirleys were married in the First Congregational Church in Hudson, Mich., on Dec. 22, 1961, in a "candlelight ceremony of quiet simplicity."
They honeymooned in New Mexico before returning to their studies at Michigan State University.

Don, the Delta County Drain Commissioner, and Vicki, a longtime potter who teaches at the Bonifas Arts Center, have lived in Bark River since 2000.
They had previously resided in Okemos and Pelkie, Mich.
