ESCANABA - Marquette General Hospital is proposing to build a $6.7 million medical office building in Escanaba. The project's site plan will be reviewed by the city's planning commission at its meeting Thursday.
Duke Realty of Indianapolis, on behalf of the hospital, is proposing to construct a 45,000-square-foot two-story "ambulatory building" at 710 Lincoln Road, according to the commission's agenda packet for the upcoming meeting.
The project requires a site plan review by the planning commission, including a public hearing, to ensure there is a public understanding of the project. The meeting begins at 6 p.m., Thursday, at city hall. Citizen input is encouraged, according to Stephen Buckbee, chairperson of the planning commission.
Duke Realty plans to build the professional office building on 5.5 acres of land located at the northwest corner of M-35 and 8th Avenue South. A total of 173 parking spaces will be on site. A pre-site plan review meeting took place on the project on June 29. City administrators met with hospital and construction representatives to discuss utility construction, parking, garbage pickup, snow removal, lighting, curbing, sidewalks and additional issues.
Notices have also been sent to property owners in the area to inform them of the project.
In other business Thursday, the planning commission will discuss a proposed city ordinance regarding the use of public sidewalk for outdoor dining, signs, merchandise display and furniture.
The commission is also scheduled to be updated on the draft of the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority Development Plan.
Additional project updates will take place as time permits.
