Golden anniversary Halvorsens

MANISTIQUE - Jerome Halvorsen and the former Marie Anderson were united in marriage 50 years ago, May 13, 1961, at St. Francis de Sales Church in Manistique.

Standing as best man for his brother was Joseph Halvorsen. Maid of honor and sister-in-law to the bride and groom was Gloria Christensen. Also attending the couple were Robert Anderson, brother of the bride, and Joyce Salter, friend of the bride.

The couple renewed their wedding vows on May 15 during the 9 a.m. Mass at St. Francis de Sales Church in Manistique. An anniversary reception was held at the home of Lorie and James Demers, hosted by the couple's four children.

Jerome worked for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources as a park manager for Indian Lake State Park. He retired in April 1994. A member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2026, Manistique, Jerome enjoys woodcrafts, hunting camp, and four-wheeling.

Retiring in March of 1999, Marie worked as a deli manager for Fairway Foods, formerly Ollie's Red Owl. She is a member of Bishop Baraga Circle, and enjoys gardening flowers, going to hunting camp, four-wheeling, and feeding wild birds.

Together, the couple has four children - Julie Jacobs of Fond du Lac, Wis., Mark Halvorsen of Stevens Point, Wis., Lorie Demers, and Kathy Jo McDougle, both of Manistique.

They also have 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The couple is at home in Manistique.
