One man makes a difference

May 21, 2011
Daily Press

This week's bouquets go to:

From Monica Morley Rushford of Rapid River:

"I would like to acknowledge Ray Horvath of County Road 513 Rapid River for the work he has done on picking up the garbage along the roadside. His efforts I hope will help others to keep our new beautiful Stonington road clean."

From Paulette Larson of Escanaba:

"I would like to thank the person who saw someone back into my van at the theater last Sunday and took the time to report it to Public Safety. It was because of your involvement that this person was caught and ticketed for not reporting that they had hit my vehicle. Thank you for doing the right thing. Hopefully the person responsible has learned a lesson and will also do the right thing next time. Thank you also to Officer LaFave for quick response in locating the individual in the theater and holding him/her accountable for their actions."

From Carol Seger of Escanaba:

"I would like to send a bouquet to Marquette General for setting up the blood mobile at Riverside Toyota on May 12. Riverside employees donated a record amount of blood. Enticing people in were the goodies people provided for donors. The need for blood was critical and these folks all took time for this worthwhile cause."

From Jennifer Blickham of Escanaba:

The Youth Assistance Program (YAP) of Delta County would like to extend a very big 'thank you to all the businesses and organizations who donated items for us to use for the Cabin Fever Auction. With your continued support and commitment to our organization we are able to help so many children in Delta County. We would not be able to do what we do without you. Thank you."

Each Saturday the Daily Press salutes individuals and groups from our area who have had a very positive impact on the way we live.

We identify our bouquet recipients in one of two ways: from Daily Press news pages and from nominations sent in by our readers.

Mail us a postcard or letter identifying your nomination and putting into detail what they've done. Include your name, address, and phone number. Send nominations to Saturday Bouquets, The Daily Press, 600 Ludington Street, Escanaba, MI 49829.

They may also be sent to us by going to our Web site, www.dailypress.net, and clicking on the Virtual Newsroom button. Once there, click on "Bouquets" and follow the simple instructions.
