GLADSTONE - Two Delta County men made it to safe ice after the vehicle they were in broke through the ice on Little Bay de Noc Monday evening, said Gladstone Public Safety officers.

Matt Pelton of Gladstone was driving his pickup truck off the bay, north of Butler's Island, attempting to go to the Kipling Boat Launch, when the vehicle went through the ice around 5:42 p.m., stated police in a news release.

As water was coming into the truck, Pelton and a passenger, Paul Deneau of Escanaba, managed to exit the vehicle. They both made it to safe ice but were very wet.

As officers arrived at the scene, they met the pair. Deneau was transported by Rampart Ambulance to OSF St. Francis Hospital emergency room where he was treated for hypothermia and frost bite. Pelton was treated at the scene.

Delta County Sheriff Department assisted public safety officers.

According to police, Pelton's vehicle and another truck which went through the ice in the same area Thursday afternoon, are expected to be removed from the bay sometime today.
