ESCANABA - Sherry Jean Viau and Stephen John Carpenter were united in marriage on Sept. 25 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Escanaba. Rev. Rick Courier presided over the noon ceremony.

A reception followed at the Danforth Place.

Heather Finley, niece of the groom, friend of the bride, and matchmaker of the couple, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Kailee Rose Hofmeister, cousin of the bride, and Sharon Hammer.

Best man for the groom was Toshi Kinoshita. Groomsmen were Scott Viau, brother of the bride, and Steve Bartolac, friend of the groom.

Ushers at the wedding were Todd Flath, uncle of the bride, and Ben Carpenter, nephew of the groom. Abby Carpenter, niece of the groom, and Sean Carpenter, nephew of the groom, greeted guests and handed out programs. Videographer of the ceremony was Emma Carpenter, niece of the groom. Heidi Schmidt, friend of the bride, served as the vocalist at the ceremony.

Sherry is the daughter of Wally and Jeannette Viau of Escanaba. She earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Northern Michigan University in 2006 and is employed as a foster care worker with Teaching Family Homes of Upper Michigan.

The son of Margie and the late Bill Carpenter of Kingsford, Steve earned a bachelor's degree in communications from UW-Stevens Point in 1994. He is employed with Viau's Market where he is learning the family business.

The couple honeymooned at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla., where they visited the Harry Potter Theme Park.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Carpenter are making their home in Escanaba.
