ESCANABA - The former Jeanette Flouro married Mel "Snooks" Hanson 50 years ago on Aug. 6, 1960, in Horicon, Wis.
Original attendants were Christine and Paul Ponath, sister-in-law and brother-in-law of the bride; and Carol and LeRoy Cooper, friends of the groom. (Both couples also celebrated 50 years together this year.)
The family hosted a sit-down dinner for 130 people Aug. 8 at Danforth Place. Some came from as far as Florida, Texas and Wisconsin for the celebration. The evening included music with a live band provided by friends of Mel and Jeanette, and a special video presentation of the couple's 50 years together.

The couple's granddaughters, Amanda and Kristina Riedy, along with two friends, sang four special songs in honor of the couple. Granddaughter Amanda Riedy made the three-tier anniversary cake.
Mel worked at Bancroft Dairy for many years before retiring from Bichler Gravel as a truck driver. His hobbies are reading and gardening.
Jeanette is a retired cook. She is fond of reading, cooking and canning.
Both Mel and Jeanette have been wintering in Florida for the past 26 years and enjoy the warmer weather.
The couple's children include Gina (Rick) Riedy of Escanaba, Deanna (Chuck) Howell of Houston, Texas, Katrina Franklin of Bark River, and Mike Hanson of Detroit. They also have eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The couple resides in Escanaba.
