Labor Day weekend full of events and activities

ESCANABA

A Family Day in Ludington Park is today and features a fireworks display tonight. The one-day event begins at 1 p.m. in Ludington Park and will feature a petting zoo, pony rides and inflatable fun provided by Abracadabra Arcade Amusements. There will also be police dog demonstrations, food vendors and musical performers.

South Bound is scheduled to perform during the event. Also scheduled to perform is Tahobahoo, Augie Peters, Escanaba City Jazz Band, and Escanaba City Band.

A fireworks extravaganza at dusk will conclude the day's events.

In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks display will be held Sunday.

STEAM AND GAS ENGINE SHOW

The Antique Steam and Gas Engine Show will run today through Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the U.P. State Fairgrounds. There will be a variety of games for children, along with horse-drawn wagon and tractor rides. In addition to a flea market, there will also be a gun and knife show throughout the weekend in the beef barn. The antique village will be open with various crafters present, along with the museum, and the general store.

ROCK

The Rock Lion's Club will celebrate Labor Day with its annual parade and all-day event today. The day kicks off at 10 a.m. with a parade, followed by a celebration held at the Rock Lion's Club grounds on M-35 in Rock. There will be live music, food concessions, a beer tent, Abracadabra Arcade, horseshoes, bingo, and lots of games and fun. This is the Rock Lion's Club main fund-raiser for the year. No carry-ins will be allowed.

NAHMA

The Nahma Labor Day Celebration will be held Sunday in Nahma beginning at 11 a.m. There will be a parade, followed by family activities and live music.

MANISTIQUE

The annual Manistique Merchants Car Show is today. The show will be held in downtown Manistique with a day full of classic cars and other activities. Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m., with the first 190 registrants receiving dash plaques commemorating their participation, as well as packages from Kewadin Casino. The event, which spans the downtown strip with an expansive display of various auto collections - classic and modern - will be open to the public at 10 a.m.

ST. IGNACE

At sunrise Labor Day, approximately 400 Michigan runners will make their way from St. Ignace to Mackinaw City as participants in one of Michigan's most unique Labor Day traditions, the Mackinac Bridge Labor Day Run.

Participants in the seventh annual Bridge Run will lead the way across the bridge for the nearly 50,000 individuals who will be participating in the 53rd annual Mackinac Bridge Walk. The non-competitive run is coordinated by the Governor's Office, the Mackinac Bridge Authority, the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Michigan Health Ministries of Ascension Health.

Runners will assemble Monday in St. Ignace at 5:45 a.m., followed by the run at 6:45. The run will conclude at approximately 7:45 a.m.
