ESCANABA - LeRoy Cooper married the former Carol Jacques 50 years ago July 16, 1960, at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock. A reception and dance followed at Riverland Ballroom.
Maid of honor was Nancy Jacques (Kasbohm), sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Mary Lou Jacques (Millette), sister of the bride, and Darlene LaMarche (Jacques), sister-in-law. Best man was Cully Shedore, friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Norbert Jacques, brother of the bride, and Melvin Hanson, friend of the groom.
In celebration of 50 years together, an anniversary dinner reception was held July 16 at Escanaba Elks Club. The event was hosted by the couple's four children and their spouses.
Carol and LeRoy Cooper — 1960
LeRoy is the owner of Cooper Office Equipment (Sales), from which he retired in 2000. He enjoys spending time at his camp in Cornell, four-wheeling, golfing, ice fishing, camping, riding his motorcycle and spending parts of the winter in Florida.
Carol worked as the bookkeeper for Cooper Office Equipment and retired in 2002 from the family business. She enjoys golfing, camping, gardening, spending time in Florida, women's clubs (Real Partners for 25 years) and the Red Hat Society.
The couple enjoys spending time with their grandchildren, of which they have four - John Cooper of Gladstone, Robert (Lori) Cooper of Gladstone, Connie (Tom) Nagy of Iron Mountain, and Carrie Cooper of Milwaukee, Wis. They also have seven grandchildren - Sydney, Bryce, Braden, Branden, Melinda, Jessie and Jenny (Aaron).
The Coopers reside in Escanaba.
