GLADSTONE - One Upper Peninsula team remained undefeated and another was eliminated Sunday in the 10 and 11-year-old boys' state baseball tournament.

Norway held off late challenges in both of its games, squeezing past Dexter 5-4 in seven innings Saturday and topping Onsted 7-4 on Sunday.

Keweenaw managed just three hits this weekend, falling to Osted 6-1 and Union Township 7-0.

Norway, now 3-0 in the tourney, returns to the Gladstone Sports Park today at 5:30 (EDT) to face North Saginaw Township on Howes Family Field.

The Dickinson County crew survived four straight walks in the sixth against Onsted after building a 7-1 advantage through five frames.

Winning pitcher Bob Kleiman worked 5 1/3 innings against Onsted, striking out five, walking the final three batters he faced and allowing four runs on four hits.

"Bob did a fantastic job," said Norway manager Dale Blagec. "He pitched well today. He's also hitting the ball well and doing an excellent job at shortstop. Our pitching is the main reason why we're here. All this is very exciting. The local towns are all behind us."

Kleiman collected three hits in each contest, including a game-winning home run to left field in the seventh on Saturday against Dexter, which erased a 4-0 deficit by scoring two runs each in the fifth and sixth.

Onsted's Jensen Fry had two hits against Norway. Austin Davis collected three and Dallas Heidbreder added a pair in Saturday's 6-1 conquest of Keweenaw.

Keweenaw failed to hit against five Onsted pitchers before finally getting three Sunday against Union Township's Tucker Gross.

Justin Hughes rapped a three-run homer to center in the sixth to rally North Saginaw past Byron Township 8-7. Mason Schwellenbach and Matt Sulkanen added leadoff homers in the first and third, respectively.

Cam Orchard had three hits, including a solo shot in the second for Byron Township, which led 7-2 after three frames Sunday. Orchard also homered Saturday in a 6-0 triumph over Commerce Township.

Matt St. Pierre scattered four hits Sunday as Grosse Pointe Woods/Shores blanked Lincoln Park American 3-0.

Commerce Township scored four times in the first as it eliminated Gaylord 5-1. Drew Temple led the winners with two hits.

Grant Katcher's three-run homer fueled a six-run first for Dexter in an 11-5 victory over South Portage. Joey Hiser had two hits for the winners and Jason West clubbed a solo homer for South Portage.

In the remaining Saturday games, Brian Nichols had two hits, including a two-run shot, to lead Lincoln Park American past Petoskey 8-5.

Hughes scattered four hits and fanned six in North Saginaw's 6-1 triumph over Grosse Pointe. Sulkanen had two hits, including a leadoff homer in the second.

Adam Nowicki collected three hits and Robbie Hansen belted a two-run shot as Gaylord beat Schoolcraft 10-5.

West, Max Newsome and Jared Lyons had two hits apiece as South Portage eliminated defending champ Richmond 6-5.
